They Need Our Help

Does it break your heart when you hear about an animal in need?

If only our homes were big enough to house and love on them all! But even though we can’t directly save every animal, we can support the people who do – so they can keep on rescuing and caring for those who have been hurt, abandoned or neglected. If you want to make a difference in an animal’s life, donate to one of the rescue shelters below.

Choose the one that tugs on your heart strings or choose at random. Your donation can change an animal’s life.

Type: Shelter

Funded entirely by private grants and donations from individuals who love animals - wonderful people like you - CARE rescues at-risk dogs and cats without regard for their health status, age or adoptability, and seeks responsible homes for them. Unlike most rescue groups, we have no time limits. Whether it takes 7 days or 7 years, our rescues have a home for life! That's because we operate a cage-free, no-kill sanctuary providing a home-sweet-home for up to 300+ orphaned cats and dogs in the high desert north of Los Angeles. Our sanctuary, established in 1998 and licensed by the county, consistently earns "A" ratings when inspected by the Dept of Animal Regulation. Some of our rescues are older, or suffer from chronic yet treatable diseases, such as diabetes and Feline AIDS. That's why our sanctuary expenses are higher than most rescue groups' expenses. How does CARE support animal welfare? By nurturing a community of homeless animals in a licensed, A-rated shelter, CARE demonstrates that responsible sanctuaries provide a truly humane alternative to current responses to pet overpopulation issues. CARE makes it possible for "unwanted" pets to live out their lives in peace and dignity.

Pibbles and More Animal Rescue

Type: Rescue

Pibbles & More Animal Rescue was started with the belief that no animal should die unwanted. After seeing the abundance of Pit bulls in shelters we decided to try to do something about it. We pull dogs from death row in the NY ACC shelters as well as from NC, SC and Georgia gassing shelters. We all have the hope that one day we will be a no kill nation. Until then, we rescue as many dogs as we can, get them medical treatment and put them into foster homes until permanent homes can be found. We don t just take healthy dogs, we take mange dogs and heartworm positive dogs and dogs who have been abused and have broken bones, open wounds and scars. When we are done, only the scars remain. Under those scars are beautiful animals with tremendous love to give. The potential is there, for dogs to get a second chance at life, to know what love feels like. This is what we strive for every day.

At this time of year, the drop-off rate is high, now is not the time to give up! Helping us is helping many dogs in need! SPCA of Western Quebec

Type: Shelter

The SPCA of Western Quebec is a no-kill animal shelter located in the Aylmer sector of the city of Gatineau. We accept animals which can no longer be kept by their owner, and we work with Shelters and Rescues who do not have space for animals. All of our animals receive an examination by our veterinarian before entering the quarantine period of their stay with us. While visiting with the vet, vaccinations are brought up to date (if necessary), and any ailments found upon exam are prescribed the necessary treatment(s). Prior to the end of their quarantine, our animals are sent to be spayed and neutered, after which time they can be made available for adoption. Those puppies and kittens who are too young for this surgery are adopted with a valid spay/neuter voucher as part of the adoption contract. Additionally, all dogs receive microchips implanted before their departure to their adoptive homes (for cats, this can be provided for a small fee). In the case of both dogs and cats, initial deworming and flea treatment is also provided during their stay in the shelter. The SPCA of Western Quebec receives no public/government funding and relies solely on adoption fees and donations to cover all costs incurred in operating the shelter, and providing all of the necessities to our animals. As well, some animals may require a significantly expensive surgery or treatment in order to prepare him or her for adoption, typically due to a pre-existing condition, injury, etc. at the time the animal was admitted to the shelter. Our thanks go out to our adopters and donors, who contribute so much with their love for our animals, and funds to assist in our mission to find homes for all of our residents. Appreciation is extended as well to our devoted volunteers, for taking a part of their day and spending it with a shelter cat or dog, just to let them know they're loved. If you would like to support the SPCA of Western Quebec, feel free to do so in whichever capacity you would prefer - an adopter, a dog walker or cat cuddler, a donor - and we would welcome your assistance. For any additional information, please feel free to contact us by phone at (819) 770-7722 or e-mail at

Love Mutts Rescue, Inc.

Type: Rescue

Welcome to the place where all dogs are loved! Love Mutts Rescue was founded to provide a group of people the 'avenue' to rescue animals from shelters. These shelters, and anyone who turns over a stray, can depend on these animals getting the proper vetting needed, proper fostering to care for them until adopted, and places to have adoption events so the rescue & the rescued could interact w/ potential homes. We rely on volunteers to open their homes to foster, which is the only 'limiting' factor to save more. The story of the starfish is our "motto"... IT matters to THIS we strive to save more of these 'voiceless' creatures. Hebrews 13:2. "Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels" Love Mutts, since Aug. 1st, 2010--has placed over 3,000 dogs (& kitties) ! The founder, Marlianne Midyette, has been rescuing dogs/cats for 9+ years. With the help of a small 'village' of volunteers, she has overseen 5,000 dogs saved and placed (plus over 150 cats)!

Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue

Type: Rescue

We consist of a small group of volunteers that find and rehome rural and some local Labrador retrievers and Lab mixes. We find our Labs through shelter volunteers out of state, who will alert us to great dogs that are about to be put to sleep. Most of these labs are in "High Kill Shelters". These are shelters that are almost always full because they are located in rural areas, where the dogs run stray, easily mating because they have not been altered. The general population in many areas of the country are still ignorant to the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. Many people also find that they can not care for their dog anymore and have no one else to turn to, so they take their dog to a shelter. Many of these "High Kill Shelters" give their dogs about 4-5 days to find a home. If they are not adopted they are euthanized or placed in a gas chamber. We want to help educate the public on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. Teach the public that it is better to adopt and save a life than to buy from a pet store or an unprofessional breeder. These animals are so loving, forgiving, and loyal, yet rely on us for their safety. We just want to give that back to them. Please join us in the fight to get more and more dogs adopted and less and less put to sleep!
