Are you looking for a sign to adopt a furry companion? Well, this is it!
Rescues and shelters for dogs and cats are filled with animals waiting to be adopted and re-homed. But here's the thing: giving a new forever-after home to rescued pets is a VERY big decision.
Adopting a dog or cat (and other pets like a horse) is lots of fun, but it does take time to plan and research. So how does it work? How do you choose the right pet? Where can I find a rescue or shelter near me? How does the adoption process work?
We know you’ve got many questions on adopting a furry friend—be it a puppy, kitten, an older dog or a senior cat—and we’ve put the answers together for you! We've created “The Ultimate Guide To Pet Adoption”.
This guide is divided into captivating articles that will teach you everything you need to know about the adoption of animals wherever you may be in the country. Keep an eye out for great tips that will help you in your search for the ideal adoption center and animal shelters, too!
Our goal is not just to encourage loving families to take in dogs and cats, not to mention other types of pets, but also create an extensive training guide for potential adopters.
We've reached out to more than 200 rescue groups and shelters across America to share with you their best advice and tips on adoptable pets, as well as their location.
We take the opportunity to thank all the rescues and shelters that have collaborated with this guide to send an important message to all families and persons who wish to adopt a pet. This would not have been possible without your valuable support.
Check out what topics and questions these articles will address:

Disclaimer: This guide is intended to provide you with the information you need to make better decisions about pet adoption. The views and opinions in this guide have tried to regroup the general procedure of pet adoption, but remember that all animals, rescues, and shelters are unique. Therefore, pet adoption will be different for each animal, rescue and shelter.
However, we have made every effort to be truthful, fair, and accurate when we wrote this guide. Zumalka has used all reasonable care in compiling the information from the interviewed rescues and shelters but makes no warranty as to its accuracy.
We recommend contacting your local rescue or shelter to help assist you in making your final decision.

May I share a FB group on “Understanding and Working with Rescue Dogs”? After I rescued our 1 1/2-year-old Lab/Staffy mix rescue dog I Iooked and looked for resources to help me in this often-challenging process. I could find a few articles and blogs about the journeys of a specific rescue dog but not much about how to work with a rescue dog to help their people and the dogs themselves.
So, I created “Understanding and Working with Rescue Dogs” myself. Please feel free to read and add your tips to help the dogs in the transition and their owners as well. I am not a canine rescue expert by any means, but I have raised and trained numerous working dog puppies and I am a certified Equine and Canine Reiki Practitioner. When I rescued Ginger Rogers in the summer of 2021, I learned a lot through trial and error. I made mistakes and enjoyed some successes.
I believe that all rescue pet parents want to do the best they can for the animal. Why not provide them with as much targeted information and help as we can?
